The graceful clock tower, made by SLIGH

French public clocks from the seventeenth century inspired this elegant Cabris, which features a graceful French banjo base, a decorative flourish of acanthus leaf, and distressed-pine cabinetry. The over-scaled dial has a glass casing that opens upward.

Made of honey-tone pine and pine veneers, the clock features German movements with a self-adjusting strike. Once a week, raise the chain weights to wind the clock. You’re rewarded with chimes that strike the hour with a resonant gong—a comforting sound that says this house is home.

Flourishes of the Far East from LEVENGER

The Plantation End Tables are reminiscent of British Colonial furniture from the nineteenth century.

Made of veneered and solid hardwoods with an antiqued cherry finish, both have tops with woven, rattan-like inserts covered with beveled glass. The end table has a pegged, mitered-corner frame and two front drawers for storage. The coffee table is a substantial size and features the same mitered-frame construction. It comes with four drawers. Antiqued brass hardware complements the warmth of the distressed wood. You’ll have plenty of tabletop and storage room with these tables (Lamps not included).

The BESTLITE from LEVENGER

The Bestlite is made by the Best & Lloyd Company, which has been making fine lamps in Britain since 1894. It was designed in 1930 by Robert Dudley Best, the founder’s son, who took a sharp turn from the decorative designs of the past and embraced the modern, functional designs of the Bauhaus.

The lamp was popular for 20 years among the practical British. The company’s most famous customer, Sir Winston Churchill, used a similar one at Chartwell, his country home. When sales dropped off in the 1960s, the lamp was discontinued. A few years ago the company reintroduced it in Europe, where it has become popular again.

There are few lamps with more flexibility. The crooked arm, which slides easily up and down the column, pivots at both the column and shade, allowing it to reach far over a desk or chair.

This desk model is polished brass with a green shade and adjusts from 20 ½” to 32 ½” high, and the base is 8 ¼” wide. It is UL listed for 100 watts, but a 60-watt bulb gives ample light for most people.
